Cell Phone Signals

I was on my way home today talking with D on my cell phone (hands-free headset, thank you) about today's events when the phone went dead. Here I am, chattering away for a few minutes before I realize I'm out of range. Again !

Of course, I can see a tower less than a mile away, but I'm unable to communicate. A funny thought that entered my head was : Here I am, in a rural country setting, the last shopping center or gas station is a mile back, and the next one is a mile ahead. That's where I'll get a signal. Not here, where on a dark night I'll get a flat or get run off the road by a huge dump truck, not when I need my phone for an emergency.

I can drag my ass 2 miles either way in a snow storm and call an ambulance from Kroger or Shell, and all my phone will be good for is lighting the way or playing a freaking game of ' snake '. ( I use my phone to find my way up the stairs to the bedroom, by the way, because the nut who designed this cavern didn't think to put in a light switch for up & down !

I picture myself as Laura Ingalls, holding the hem of my flannel nightie in one hand whilst clutching aloft an oil lamp over my be-capped head. I'm surprised this place is even hooked up for juice to begin with ! )

So, anyway, enough venting about cell pnone signals.

For now.
